SUNSET

There is a reason sunsets are believed to be timeless and constant standbys of poets, writers and romantics – they are truly inspiring. Mahatma Gandhi observed this power when he said, "When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in the worship of the creator".
During my recent get away at Alwar, I was mesmerized by the sunset that I saw while strolling at Silisereh Lake, Alwar. I found calm and peace surrounding me and as the birds started to fly back, I too moved towards the hotel I was staying. I knew that I was not walking alone. I had a few questions with me -
How many sunsets have I seen during this last week, this last month, this last year? I ask all of you the same question. I not ask how many have you glanced at, but how many have you gazed upon, paid attention to, pondered? On how many have you held your mind long enough for it to become impressed, for an influence to be diffused through your heart?

I leave you with the last few lines of the poem ‘Leisure’ penned by W.H.Davies

A poor life this is if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare
